MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Seven Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed in a clash with Talibaninfo-icon militants in the Khwaja Subzposh district of northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Thursday.

The district’s administrative chief, Abdullah Masumi, told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents stormed ANA checkpoints in the Dorahi-Khwaja Qushri locality of the city late on Wednesday night.

He said some weapons and a tank were also seized by the rebels.

Mohammad Tahir Rahmani, the provincial council (PC) chief, called the one-side ceasefire of the government a senseless move. Such a ceasefire could provide the Taliban the opportunity to gain strength and regroup.

Abdul Wakil, a Taliban leader in the area, claimed killing 12 ANA soldiers and their bodies remained on the battlefield.

He confirmed the wounding of three fighters in the clash. The militant commander alleged a girls’ school was torched by the security forces.
