King Salman suggests extension of Afghan truce

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Saudi King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud has followed with keen interest the truce between the Afghan government and Talibaninfo-icon over Eidul Fitr holidays.

While supporting the move, he hoped the truce would be renewed and stretched over a longer period so that all parties could work together to achieve peace for the Afghan people.

Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted the king as saying that the Afghan people, who had suffered the horrors of war, and the Islamic worldinfo-icon were looking forward to tolerance and reconciliation and protection of innocent people based on Islamic teachings.

In a Royal Court statement, Salman said Islam rejected divisions and enjoined upon believers to cooperate on righteousness, piety, forgiveness and reconciliation among brothers.
The king wished the Afghan brothers all success in their efforts to achieve what was best for their country.

Stressing reconciliation in the war-torn country, he prayed for lasting security and stability in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Meanwhile, the Muslim World League also hailed the truce as a wise decision. Secretary General Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa also praised the statement of King Salman in this regard.
