JALALABAD (Pajhwok): New security posts are being constructed in the Haska Mina district of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Friday.

A high-level delegation visited the district to assess the situation there late on Thursday, the governor’s spokesman Attaullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The delegation included Gen. Asadullah Kohistani of the 201st Military Corps, border police commander Brig. Gen. Ayub Hussainkhel, Brig. Gen. Nasir Ahmad Sapi and other security officials.

The militants had been weakened in Haska Mina, where the security environmentinfo-icon would further improve with the construction of new check-posts, Khogyani hoped.

Gen. Kohistani also claimed the areas where Daesh had a presence had been cleared as a result of operation by security forces. The operations were still ongoing, he added.

For his part, Gen. Hussainkhel briefed the officials on the ongoing offensive that he characterised as a success. The areas purged would be protected, he promised.

Meanwhile, ANA Commander Gen. Karim Niazi said new checkpoints would be built and manned by well-equipped security personnel in the areas where offensives were underway.
