Fuel, sugar and flour prices up in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The prices of flour, petrol and sugar edged up while that of gold’s price went down in Kabul during the outgoing week, market sources said Saturday.

Abdul Hadi, a worker at Wazirabad fuel station in Kabul, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the price of one liter of petrol jumped from 50 afghanis to 52afs during the week.

Haji Fawad Ahmad Salehzada, a jeweler in Timor Shahi area of Kabul, said one gram of Arabian gold’s rate decreased from 2,400afs to 23,60afs and the same quantity of the Russian variety slipped from 1,850afs to 18,00afs.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Javed, a liquefied gas seller in Taimani area, sold one kilogram of the commodity for 47afs, registering no change in its rate.

The price of a 49-kg bag of Pakistani sugar jumped from 15,550afs to 16,60afs, and a 49-kg flour bag from 1,070 to 1,100afs, according to FazalRahman, Food Traders' Union head.

A 24-kg bag of Pakistani rice was sold for 2,000afs and 16 liters of Khurshid ghee doe 1,020afs.

Meanwhile, Noor Ahmad Khairkhwa, a tea seller in Kabul’s Mandavi, said a kilogram of Indonesian green tea cost 280afs and the same amount of African black tea 300afs – the same prices as of last week’s.

Ahmad Wali Panjsheri, who owns a grocery store in Dahn-i-Bagh area of Kabul, sold a 50-kg sack of Kazakhstani flour for 1,200afs, a 49-kg bag of sugar for 1,750afs, a 24-kg of Pakistani rice bag for 2,200afs, a 16-litre tin of ghee for 1,100afs, one-kg of Indonesian green tea for 300afs and the same amount of black African tea for 350afs—higher than wholesale rates.

According to moneychangers’ union in Sara-i-Shazada, one US dollar accounted for 71.85afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 598afs against last week's 71.35afs and 598afs respectively.
