New Kabul garrison commander vows improved security

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Deputy interior minister for security Gen. Murad Ali Murad on Saturday took charge as new commander of the Kabul garrison, vowing to improve security in the central capital.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the change of command, Gen. Murad, who replaces Gen. Afzal Aman, pledged to strive for improvement in security of capital Kabul.

Defense and interior ministers were present at the event. Defense Minister Gen. Tariq Shah Bahrami congratulated Gen. Murad on assuming his new post and hailed the work of former garrison commander.

Bahrami stressed improvement Kabul security and asked the new leadership to ensure safety and protection of people at all cost.

In his remarks, Gen. Murad said he would strive to ensure security in Kabul. “Unfortunately the people are still concerned about the security of Kabul. The existing gap between the garrison and people would be eliminated,” he pledged.

Gen. Afzal Aman, the former acting garrison commander, said security for the upcoming election was better managed through the garrison.

He said in the past 58 days, 2,700 security personnel of the garrison properly managed security of the election process. Even security personnel offered duty for 52 days at a single registration centre, he claimed.

The Kabul garrison was formed three years back for security of capital Kabul. It works under the leadership of the Defense Ministry.
