Declining afghani worries people, moneychangers

Declining afghani worries people, moneychangers

Jun 25, 2018 - 21:54

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Residents and moneychangers in Kabul say they are concerned about fast depreciating value of the afghani against dollar. They believe further decline in the afghani may harm common people the most.

According to Pajhwok reports, in late March the price of one US dollar was 69 afghanis compared to 72.80 afghanis on Monday.

Syed Mohammad, a moneychanger at Shazada Market, said: “The afghani was unstable from the beginning of the solar yearinfo-icon. Even today it further depreciated until 4:00pm when one dollar was purchased for 72.80 afghanis and sold for 72.90 afghanis in the market.”

Ahmad Shah, another moneychanger, said: “The value of dollar has increased against many global currencies and afghani is one of them because our economic problems are greater.”

Besides economic issues, security challenges, political instability and other problems could be blamed for the decline in the value of afghani.

The Afghanistaninfo-icon Central Bank and other government sources could not be reached for comment despite attempts.
