6 civilians, 4 rebels killed in Nuristan airstrike

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least six civilians and four Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed in a foreign forces airstrike in Want Wegal district of eastern Nangarhar province.

Saadullah Paindazoi, Nuristan provincial council head, told Pajhwok Afghan News that foreign forces carried out an airstrike in Daigal area of Want Wegal district late on Monday.

He said civilians and insurgents were visiting a wounded rebel when came under attack from foreign forces.

Ten people including six civilians were killed in the airstrike, Paindazoi said.

Nuristan governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Sayed Momand, confirmed the foreign forces airstrike in Want Wegal district.

He said 11 people including six of them unarmed killed in the incident. It is unclear whether the unarmed men were civilians or militants but investigations are underway, he added.

Militants and foreign forces did not comment yet on the incident.
