22 Taliban killed in Ghazni clashes: police

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Twenty-two Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed and scores of others wounded during separate clashes with security forces in southern Ghazni province, an official said Wednesday.

Provincial police chief Col. Farid Ahmad Mashal told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents launched coordinated attacks on security check-posts in Gilan, Andar and Jaghatu districts late Tuesday night.

The attacks were repulsed and nine attackers were killed and four others wounded in the clashes that left three security personnel wounded, said Mashal. The wounded security men were said to be in stable condition.

Separately on Wednesday morning, seven Taliban insurgents were killed and two others wounded in an airstrike that targeted a Taliban Humvee tank in Nawa district, the police chief added.

On the other hand, six Taliban were killed when the landmine they were planting the Kabulinfo-icon-Kandahar highway went off in Shahbaz locality.

Izzatullah, a resident of the area, confirmed the blast but had no information about casualties.

The Taliban have not yet commented about these incidents.
