PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Womeninfo-icon’s handicrafts were put on display at an exhibition organized by women in Pul-i-Khumri, the capital of northern Baghlan province, on Thursday.

Dozens of women from Baghlan and neighboring Samangan province took part in the show at Bibi Sabri Garden.

Khadija Yaqin, Baghlan women’s affairs head, talking to the exhibition participants, said: “I thank Baghlan and Samangan women for their contribution to resolving family problems.”

In addition to earning enough to meet their family needs, the Afghan women also kept their culture alive by making handicrafts, she remarked.

She voiced on the women to take membership of the Baghlan Female Traders Association and promote their products.

Also present on the occasion was Niaz Mohammad Rasikh, head of Baghlan appellate court, who said the government could better serve women if it narrowed the gap with public.

“We at least can defend women’s rights and prevent violence against them,” he said.

Bibi Gulchin, a resident of Doshi district of Baghlan, said: “I am illiterate but the only one in my family earn enough to meet family needs.”

She said still families were against women’s work and thus wasting their time and suffering from economic problems.
