KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Canada is building a new monument to acknowledge the sacrifices its military veterans have rendered during their deployment to Afghanistaninfo-icon.

The monument would be constructed at Queen’s Park on the legislative precinct, Prime Minister-designate Doug Ford announced on Wednesday.

Speaking at the Canadian Forces College in North York, he said: “A new generation of heroes, who fought bravely against the terrorists of Al Qaeda and the Talibaninfo-icon, walk among us.”

Canadian media quoted him as saying: “We must always remember the 159 Canadians who never returned from Afghanistan…”

After the swearing-in of the new Progressive Conservative government on Friday, details about the memorial cost, design, and timeline will be revealed.
