FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): The Talibaninfo-icon militants have lashed a young girl 30 times on elopement charges in line with a kangaroo court verdict in western Ghorinfo-icon province, an official said on Thursday.

Provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Ziaul Haq Khushnood told Pajhwok Afghan News the girl was punished in the Khursang area of Shahrak district.

Another security sources revealed the 18-year-old had been awarded 30 lashes by Taliban commanders Mullahinfo-icon Gul Mohammad and Allah Gulone a month back.

“The girl, who was engaged to a man a year back, ran away from her house before elders mediated and got her divorce. In Ramazan, her father, under duress, took the girl to the Taliban court for trial,” the police chief said.

“The Taliban initially wanted to stone her but later decided to whip her. The girl is not living in an area under government control,” Khushnood explained. The locality has under Taliban’s control for the past few years.
