Jawzjan residents seek permanent Taliban-govt truce

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The residents of Darzab and Qush Tepa districts in northern Jawzjan province have demanded permanent ceasefire between the government and Talibaninfo-icon militants and ask the warring parties to enter direct peace talks.

A number of residents of these two districts say the ongoing conflict between the government and the Taliban is ‘a meaningless war’ and both the sides should open their doors to peace.

Rahmatullah Hashar, a resident of Darzab, said there would be a fewer families who might not have lost their beloved ones to the ongoing conflict.

“We in Darzab district have long suffered due to the war. Our people have been displaced to cities and other places and have been lacking even basic facilities of life,” he said.

Mustafa Qul, a resident of Qush Tapa district, said: “The war forced us to leave our homes and suffer more than anybody else. As a result of Daesh’s growing activities, the residents of Qush Tepa and Darzab district have lost control over their sons,” he said.

“I really hope peace may be established in the country and I would be able to return to my home with family,” he said.
