PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistaninfo-icon (HIA) head hopes his party will win a significant number of parliamentary seats in the upcoming Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon elections.

In an interview published in a Pakistani newspaper on Monday, he said HIA candidates would succeed in the polls scheduled to be held in October this year.

However, he stressed the need for transparency to make the election outcome acceptable to all stakeholders. Fair elections would help stabilize the country, he argued,

He urged Pakistaninfo-icon and Afghanistan to work together for peace, as the continuation of war would badly affect both countries. Hekmatyar said he had always urged the Talibaninfo-icon to join the political process.

Speaking to Daily Times, he proposed the creation of peace zone in different parts of the country to encourage the return of Taliban leaders to the country.

Hekmatyar, a former prime minister, said: “There will be no war and foreigners will not stay there. This will pave the way for trust building and ultimately for peace negotiations.”

The renowned jihadinfo-icon leader has shared the proposal with President Ashraf Ghani, whose response he characterised as “very positive”. But the idea is opposed by Chief Executive Dr Abdullah.

“I have urged President Ghani to propose effective peace plans to the Taliban. He has sent positive messages to the Taliban since he unveiled his peace initiative at the meeting of Kabulinfo-icon Process in February,” he added.
