Wolesi Jirga hopeful lists from provinces announced

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) on Tuesday announced preliminary list of Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon candidates from 33 provinces, disqualifying 141 parliamentary hopefuls, including 24 womeninfo-icon, for lack of necessary documents.

In the past four days, the IEC had announced preliminary list of candidates from 33 provinces, except from Ghazni province.

Merza Mohaqiq, IEC acting deputy spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News at least 141 candidates, including 24, women had been dropped the initial list of candidates from 33 provinces during evaluation of their documents.

He said no candidates from eight provinces --- Nimroz, Panjshir, Laghman, Jawzjan, Samangan, Zabul, Badghis and Ghorinfo-icon--- had been removed from the list.

Due to protest and closure of the IEC office in Ghazni City, no one nominated to run in the upcoming polls.

The Wolesi Jirga and district council polls are scheduled for October 20.  The IEC has completed voter registration across the country.
