Blamed on ALP, mortar kills 2 children in Balkh

MAZAR-I-ISHARIF (Pajhwok): Two children were killed in a mortar strike by the Afghan local police (ALP) in Chamtal district of northern Balkh province, tribal elders claimed on Wednesday.

Around 40 tribal elders coming all the way from Chamtal district brought the bodies of the two children and placed them in front of the provincial council (PC) office in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital.

Niak Mohammad, a tribal elder, claimed people had suffered a lot due the ALP forces’ shelling over the past three months.

Former PC member Zabihullah Zmari, who is now running in the Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon elections, called the Chamtal residents’ complaint as genuine.

He said the ALP check-point was located in the middle of the village in Jar Kala locality and the forces often retaliated to Talibaninfo-icon attacks by shelling civilian homes.
