72 Taliban killed in round-the-clock raids

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Friday said as many as 72 militants have been killed and 33 others wounded in security operations during the past 24 hours.

A MoD statement issued here said the operations were backed by air and arterially forces.

The raids were carried out in Nangarhar, Laghman, Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Uruzgan, Zabul, Bamyan, Farah, Badghis, Faryab, Takhar, Nimroz and Helmand provinces.

Nearly 30 Talibaninfo-icon gunmen were killed in Purchaman district of Farah and eight others wounded, the statement said.

A dozen Taliban militants were killed, including two commanders --- Lal Mohammad and Saifullah --- in Qarghai district of eastern Laghman province.

Another 12 rebels were slain and 14 injured in Qarabagh district and the provincial capital of southern Ghazni province.

In Khas Uruzgan and Tirinkot, the provincial capital of central Uruzgan province, 10 rebels were killed, their weapons and explosives destroyed, the MoD statement said.

Two Taliban were killed Helmand’s Nad Ali district, as many in Nimroz Khashrud district, one in Kahmard district of Bamyan, five arrested and their three motorbikes and weapons seized.

One Taliban fighter was killed and three injured in Faryab’s Kohistan district. In Nangarhar province, two military commanders of the Taliban named Bahadur and Gul Wali were killed in a blast caused by their own bomb.

Six other militants were wounded and their vehicle destroyed in the bombing, the statement concluded.
