Taliban shut 39 schools in Logar

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The Talibaninfo-icon have closed 39 girls and boys schools in the Mohammad Agha district of central Logar province, an official said on Saturday.

Educationinfo-icon Department Spokesman Shapour Arab told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban closed the doors of these schools in different areas of the district and warned if the government tried to reopen them the schools would set on fire.

He said as many as 15,000 girls and boys had been deprived from their studied after the Taliban order the schools to be closed.

He said the Taliban’s move to close schools was in response to security forces operations in the district. He, however, said efforts on through the mediation of tribal elders to reopen the schools.

Noor Mohammad, a teacher at Mohmmad Agha district, said the Taliban order education official to close the schools on the first day of midterm exams.

Jalaluddin, the student of Dahno High School, said the Taliban closed their school and he was unable to appear in the exam.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the closure of schools in Logar’s Mohammad Agha district.
