Nearly 400,000 Afghans returned home in mid-2017

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The ministry of refugees and repatriation on Sunday said nearly 400,000 Afghans either returned home voluntarily or were deported from different countries in mid-2017.

A statement from the ministry said of the 387,358 refugees, 363,076 voluntarily returned from Iran and 24,282 from Pakistaninfo-icon.

It added 206,910 Afghans deported from Iran and 1,039 from Pakistan. The numbers show an increase in returns of Afghans refugees from Iran and a decline from Pakistan.

According to the statement, the refugees entered the country through the Silk Bridge in Nimroz, Islam Qala in Herat, Torkham border of Nangarhar and the Spin Boldak route in Kandahar.

The returnees with or without immigration documents were provided with cash and non-cash assistance by international institutions with the ministry’s cooperation.

Since the takeover of President Ghani, about three million Afghan refugees have returned to the country.
