FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Gunmen loyal to Jamiat-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistaninfo-icon (JIA) and Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistan (HIA) clashed in northern Badakhshan province, killing four armed men and injured six civilians, an official said Monday.

Police spokesman Sanaullah Rohani told Pajhwok Afghan News that the clash occurred between Qari Abdul Wadud, police chief of Baharak district, who is associated with the HIA and JIA commander and mayor of Baharak district Abdul Rauf over personal differences.

He said at least four people had been killed on both sides while six civilians also suffered injuries.

In connection with the case, Mualvi Abdul Hameed, HIA supporter and Qari Abdul Wadud had been arrest and were being investigated. A team to assess the situation had been dispatched to the area.

Ahmad Javid Mujadidi, the provincial council head, said the Baharak district chief often engaged in clashes with armed men of the mayor.

He criticized the provincial administration and the police chief for playing no role to stop fighting in the area between the JIA and HIA supporters.
