13 dead, many wounded in Farah, Badghis clashes

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Four security personnel and nine Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed in separate incidents of violence in northwestern Badghis and western Farah provinces, officials said Tuesday.

Nasir Mehri, the Farah governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News insurgents stormed security check-posts in Konj Abad village of the capital late on Monday night.

He said five Taliban militants and three security forces were killed and seven militants and four security forces wounded during the overnight clash.

However, a resident of the area, wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok that nine security forces were killed and they included three from Konj Abad village and the rest were residents of others areas. He had no information about Taliban causalities.

Meanwhile, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, a Taliban spokesman, claimed the fighters killed eight police including commander Ahmad Shah.

But the governor’s spokesman rejected his claim.

Elsewhere in Badghis province, the Taliban raided security check-points in Chehgazi locality of Maqur district on Monday night.

The provincial brigade operation commander Abdul Hakim told Pajhwok that one policeman and four Taliban insurgents were killed and three others policemen and four insurgents wounded in the nighttime firefight.

The Taliban have so far said nothing in this regard.
