Imam-i-Kaaba urges prompt end to ‘Afghan fitna’

JEDDAH (Pajhwok): Imaminfo-icon of Masjid al-Haram Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid has called the conflict in Afghanistaninfo-iconfitna,” saying faith and peace are interconnected and must for a faithful.

“Peace and faith are interlinked, one cannot exists in the absence of the other, they are must for a faithful,” the imam of the Grand Mosqueinfo-icon in Meccainfo-icon said while addressing a global conference on peace efforts in Afghanistan here.

He said the current situation in Afghanistan was no more affordable and the ongoing fighting must be ceased.

“We fully support Afghanistan in achieving peace and stability, those who want peace are complete Muslim and those rejecting it follow the evil,” he added.

Early in the morning, the international conference on peace efforts in Afghanistan kicked off in the Jeddah city of Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

Religious scholars attending the two-day event are expected to ask the Taliban to join the peace process and recognise the democratically elected Afghan government.

Around 110 religious scholars from over 36 Muslim countries, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Sudan and Tunisia, are participating in the conference.

A Pajhwok reporter in Jeddah said the event was opened by the Saudi minister of hajj and religious affairs.
