Gunmen set on fire a middle school in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Unknown gunmen have set on fire a middle school in the Batikot district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Sunday.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News unidentified gunmen torched the Captan Baba Middle School in the Krabawai locality of the district on Saturday night.

He said that all textbooks, classrooms and documents were burnt. Around 800 students were studying in the school, the gubernatorial spokesman concluded.

Azizullah Khan, a resident of the area, told Pajhwok the gunmen expelled the school’s guard before setting alight the building.

He said flames continued to rise from the building till morning but district officials did not take any step to put out the blaze.

There was no immediate claimed of responsibility for the incident.
