Saudi gifts 150 tons of dates to Afghan Red Crescent

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Saudi Arabia ambassador on Sunday handed over 150 tones of dates worth more than one million Saudi riyals to the Afghan Red Crescent Societyinfo-icon officials for natural calamity-prone provinces of Afghanistaninfo-icon.

The ambassador, Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Khalidi,  said the dates had been provided by “King Salman” charity foundation to the natural calamity prone people.

He said Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia had a long historic friendship and that his country was committed to continuing assistance with new returning Afghan refugee families.

He said his country wished lasting peace in Afghanistan and Riyadh would spare no effort in this regard.

According to him, his country’s cooperation would remained focused on educationinfo-icon, orphans, drinking water, creating deep wells in urban areas of the country.

Mirwais Akram, acting head of the Afghan Red Crescent Society, said the 150 tons of dates would be distributed to people in vulnerable provinces.

He said the Saudi government had promised $6 million to construct a hospital for children with a hole in the heart.

Akram added at present, 6400 children with holes in their hearts had been registered and were expected to be dispatched abroad for treatment
