KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Hundreds of Afghan detainees in Iran and Tajikistan would be transferred to the country soon, the Attorney General Office (AGO) said on Thursday.

Aziz Ahmad Sarbaz, a senior AGO officer, told Pajhwok Afghan News around 4,000 Afghans had been imprisoned in Iran out of which around 1,000 had been identified and 632 extradited.

In Tajikistan 174 Afghan had been imprisoned and would be extradited soon, he added.

Sarbaz said around 130 Afghans prisoners would be transferred to the county in two month and added the extradition process was carried out voluntarily.

He said the extradited prisoners would spend their remaining jail term in the prisons of the country and would be provided with all their legal rights.

The prisoners extradition agreement was inked between Afghanistaninfo-icon and Iran back in 2007 but besides the agreement several prisoners had been executed in Iranian jails and some were waiting for the execution.

Sarbaz asked the Afghan prisoners out of the country to inform the Afghan diplomatic mission in the respective country so that the concerned departments would take action accordingly.
