PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Afghanistaninfo-icon and Pakistaninfo-icon are expected to start receiving electricity from a major regional power project in the next two years.

CASA-1000 would be completed in two years and “we would start providing electricity to Afghanistan and Pakistan,” a Tajik diplomat said on Wednesday.

Bahodur Buriev, first secretary at the Embassy of Tajikistan in Islamabad, told reporters Afghanistan would be responsible for providing security.

Under the $1.2 billion project, launched in May 2016, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan will supply 1,000 megawatts of electricity to Pakistan and 300MW to Afghanistan during the summer.

Tajikistan had proposed expanding the public-private partnership to open new opportunities to attract additional investment in water sector, he said.
