2 women killed in Kunduz mortar strike

KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): Two womeninfo-icon were killed and eight other people including two children were wounded when a mortar shell hit a farm field in northern Kunduz province on Saturday, a public representative claimed.

Sayed Asadullah Sadat, a member of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place in Aqtapa locality of Qalazal district shortly after 11am.

He said the women and children were working in the field when the mortar shell landed on the ground. The mortar had allegedly been fired by security forces.

However, police spokesman Inamuddin Rahmani rejected the PC member’s claim that the mortar had been fired by security forces, blaming it on Talibaninfo-icon insurgents.

He said insurgents stormed security check-posts in the area, firing mortars that killed a man and wounded six others.

The Taliban have so far said nothing about the incident.
