Gen. Dostum due in Kabul tomorrow

Gen. Dostum due in Kabul tomorrow

Jul 21, 2018 - 19:32

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Presidential Palace on Saturday confirmed first vice president Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum would likely return to the country from Turkey tomorrow (Sunday) and resume his job.

Dostum quietly left Kabul for Turkey last year in May after he was accused of rape and torture by a political rival Ahmad Ischi. Dostum has since been living in exile in Turkey.

A few months back Gen. Dostum attempted to return to the country but his aircraft was not permitted to enter Afghanistaninfo-icon.

However, Haroon Chakhansori, the president spokesman, on Saturday told a press conference that Dostum was never a citizen of Turkey but he had gone there for treatment.

He said after treatment, Gen. Dostum had recovered and he would arrive in Kabul in a private airline by tomorrow evening.

“Reception ceremony for Dostum has been prepared and after arriving he would start his job as first vice president of the Afghanistan,” he said.

Regarding to Dostum’s case, the president spokesman said it was a legal issue belonging to the judicial organs which were independent and would decide according to the laws of Afghanistan.

He said all preparations to welcome Dostum at the Kabul international airport had been put in place and an extraordinary unit of guards had already reached there.

Based on the agreement between the presidential palace and Dostum, it is said Nizamuddin Qisari would be released but he would stay in Kabul for a while.

A security official, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Qaisari was currently in the NDSinfo-icon center.

But presidential spokesman Haroon Chakhansori confirmed to Pajhwok that Nizamuddin Qaisari would not be released as he was under investigation and would be referred to the attorneys.
