MPs condemn civilian deaths in Kunduz airstrike

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon members on Saturday strongly condemned a NATOinfo-icon airstrike that allegedly killed 14 members of a family in Chahardara district in northern Kunduz province, demanding serious investigation into the incident.

On Friday, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) confirmed more than 10 civilian deaths in an airstrike in northern Kunduz province.

The airstrike happened in Rabat locality of Chahardara district on Thursday and the dead included womeninfo-icon and children, the MoD said in a statement. Another five people were wounded.

Kamal Safi, a lower house member from Kunduz province, told Saturday’s session the incident should be investigated.

“Such blind attacks by foreign troops are a clear reason behind the continuation of war and recruitment of terrorists in the country,” thundered Safi.

Another lawmaker from eastern Kunar province Sakhi Mashwani also condemned the incident and said the war would not come to an end until such raids continued, calling for increased coordination among Afghan and foreign forces during the conduct of air raids.

Wolesi Jirga speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi termed the incident as crime and asked the government leaders to discuss the issue with NATO officials, otherwise the situation would become intolerable for people.

A number of other Wolesi Jirga members expressed similar views about the incident and asked the government to seriously probe it.
