15 security men killed in Paktika attack

SHARANA (Pajhwok): Ten border police and five Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed during a clash with Talibaninfo-icon militants in southeastern Paktika province, an official said Sunday.

A security official in Giyan district, who refused to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents stormed security check-posts in Maani Kandao locality of the district late Saturday night.

The insurgents killed 10 border policemen and five ANA soldiers and wounded a number of others during the overnight assault, he said.

He said the Taliban insurgents also suffered causalities but exact figures were not known.

Meanwhile, Sifatullah, a resident of Giyan district, told Pajhwok that security forces suffered heavy causalities in the overnight clash.

The Taliban also confirmed the clash and the group spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed the fighters killed 14 security forces.
