4 worshippers killed in Nangarhar mosque shooting

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Seven worshippers including the imaminfo-icon suffered casualties after unidentified gunmen opened fire at a mosqueinfo-icon in Surkh Rod district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official sai Monday.

Governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place on Sunday night in Shamshpor village of the district.

He said four people were killed and three others including the imam of the mosque were injured in the attack.

On the other hand, Nangarhar public healthinfo-icon director Dr. Najibullah Kamawal, confirmed receiving four bodies from the incident area.

He said condition of those wounded in the incident was stable and were under treatment in Nangarhar Zonal Hospital.

Hamidullah, a resident of the area, told Pajhwok that people were praying in the mosque when unidentified armed men opened fire at them last evening.

No group has so far claimed resopnsiblity for the attack, but officails said an investigation was underway.

According to another report, two back to back blasts happened in Jalalabad city, capital of Nangarhar, Monday, but officials said they caused no casualties.

The explosions took place near Behsud village of the city. However, eyewitnesses said one civilan was injured in the blasts.

Attaullah Khogyani confirmed the incident but said no one was killed or injued.

Suhail, an eyewitness, said the explosions took place near a checkpoint and injured one civilian.

Nangarhar public health department spokesman, Inaamullah Miakhel, also said no one was wounded or killed in the incident.
