Dostum stresses political settlement of ongoing conflict

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum has asked the Talibaninfo-icon to accept the government reconciliation offer send their specific peace plans to the government so that option for its solution could be explored.

Referring to the Afghanistaninfo-icon’s Solvation Alliance, the vice president said the purposed of the alliance was to rescue the country from security threats and maintain a position on peace process.

“As security situation in the north deteriorated, the threats of Daesh and other rebels groups increased we the leaders of northern part of the country decided to create an alliance to save the county. It was never against the government or to weaken the national unity government,” he said.

“We created this system and we will protect it at any cost, but it was also our duty to criticise the weakness of the government in a constructive manner and introduce reforms,” he said.


In his election message the first vice president said government, political parties and the people had their role and responsibilities for the successful conduct of election.

“We experienced undesirable events in previous election and concerns still existed regarding the conduct of upcoming free and fair polls. Being the vice president of this government it was our responsibility to ensure the successful and fair election,” he added.

Peace Process:

Referring to the ongoing peace process, Dostum said the government of Afghanistan has achieved domestic and international consensuses on peace process which was the need of hour.

He said fighting was not the way out and Afghanistan needed a national understanding and compromised.

No party has the ability to continue with fighting neither the government nor the political opponents, he added.

“I am interested more than anyone to strive for a political settlement in Afghanistan and want the Taliban to set on the table of talks and put forward their demands for discussion,” he added.
