Saudi urged to increase role in Afghan peace bid

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): National Security Advisor (NSA) Hanif Atmar has urged Saudi Arabia to increase its role in advancing the Afghanistaninfo-icon peace process, a statement said on Monday.

The statement from the NSA office said Atmar discussed peace in Afghanistan with Saudi Arabia’s ambassador Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Khalid in his office on Monday.

Atamr thanked Saudi Arabia for its increasing efforts and cooperation towards achieving durable peace and stability in Afghanistan.

He thanked religious scholars who met in Saudi Arabia recently and denounced the war in Afghanistan.

The Saudi ambassador on his part reiterated his country’s commitment to supporting an Afghan led and Afghan owned peace process.

Atmar said regional, national and international consensus on peace had been achieved in Afghanistan.

Separately, NSA Atmar met François Richier, the French ambassador to Afghanistan, and congratulated the French people over winning the 2018 football worldinfo-icon cup.

Both the sides discussed mutual cooperation and the fight against terrorism and prevention of foreign nationals from joining terrorist groups in Afghanistan.
