KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) on Wednesday said members of district councils would be granted salaries and other legal privileges.

A statement from IDLG said the National High Council for Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption had decided on giving district council members salaries and other benefits.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the National High Council for Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption, chaired by President Ashraf Ghani, on Wednesday.

IDLG is currently working on a draft law on determining salaries and other perks for the district council members, the statement added.

Four consultative meetings regarding the draft law have so far taken place in the four zones of the country, according to the directorate.

The law will provide a clarification on issues of provincial, district, village and municipality councils.

The district council elections will be conducted simultaneously with Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon polls on October 20.
