Omna district of Paktika recaptured from Taliban, police claim

SHARAN (Pajhwok): Twenty-eight militants were killed and wounded as the security forces retook the Omna district of southeastern Paktika province, officials said on Wednesday.

After days of heavy clashes, Giyan and Omna districts of the province were overrun by Talibaninfo-icon on Tuesday.

Deputy police chief Col. Abdul Rauf Masood told Pajhwok Afghan News the security forces had recaptured the Zawaki locality of the district.

He said 28 Taliban militants, including a number of commanders, had been killed and wounded during clashes. Three police personnel were also killed.

A resident of the district, who wished to go unnamed, said Zawaki area had been recaptured by security forces. Eight Taliban were killed in the fighting, he added.
