HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A delegation of the Worldinfo-icon Bank (WB) has promised providing $60 million for the expansion of the electricity network in western Herat province.

The WB team, during a meeting with Governor Mohammad Asif Rahimi, said the aid would be delivered over the next five years.

Part of the money has been set aside for four substations in eastern districts, power supply from Salma dam and construction of a power station in Hashmi Bridge area.

An amount of $14 million will be spent on installing smart energy metres, replacing the old ones. The system will help consumers pay actual bills.

The governor welcomed the WB assistance, saying it would help reduce power crisis and strengthen the sector. He urged swift implementation of the project.

Meanwhile, residents also welcomed the aid and hoped the assistance would help resolve electricity problems in the province.
