KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A new 110-kilovolt power transmission line from Turkmenistan to Afghanistaninfo-icon has been inaugurated in the neighbouring country.

The transmission line will supply electricity from Rabat-Kashan to Qala-i-Naw, the capital of northwestern Badghis province.

AzeriNews quoted Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as calling the project the outcome of effective cooperation between the two nations.

He said the Afghan-Turkmen ties were based on the principles of friendship, brotherhood and good neighborliness.

Turkmenistan exports electricity to Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey. Ashgabat is also weighing power supplies to the Caucasus markets, as well as Central and South Asia.

After the Imamnazar–Andkhoi and Serhetabat–Herat lines, the new project is the first to deliver additional electricity to the energy-deficient neighbour.
