No TV or radio can take minbar’s place, says Ghani

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday urged religious scholars to raise their voice against administrative corruption, saying no TV or radio could take the place of minbar.

Around 200 scholars from across the country attended the conference titled “Voice of Minbar against corruption” on the day one in Kabul.

In his address to the event participants, President Ghani thanked the religious scholars for their coordination and said: “Silence over corruption is not legitimate, it is treason,” said the president.

Ghani said Afghanistaninfo-icon scholars had convinced international scholars and their voice against corruption would be highly effective.

The president said the Afghan nation was not corrupt but a handful individuals had defamed the nation. He said those involved in corruption were a minority which should be prevented.

He further said in Islamic societyinfo-icon, the state’s first duty was peace: “We must focus on the niche that comes from justice, legitimacy and sovereignty.”

On the second and final session day of the ulemainfo-icon conference on corruption, the participants issued an eight-article resolution that asked judicial organs to seriously deal with corrupt individuals.

Attorney General Fareed Hameed termed the fight against corruption 'as a vital task and hoped the two-day conference would suggest ways how to eradicate the menace.

The attorney general termed cooperation between police and his office as key to overcoming corruption.

Afghanistan Ulmea Council head Qayamuddin Kashaf urged the religious scholars to name individuals involved in corruption.

He termed corruption one of the main reasons behind the war and conflict in the country and said people lacked option but to approach the Talibaninfo-icon for resolution to their disputes.
