KABUL instead of only making pledges, a participant said on Monday.

University teachers, civil society and China attended the meeting in Beijing, the Chinese capital, and discussed in detail possible threats to the three nations and existing opportunities, said an Afghan participant.

Civil society activist Intizar Khadim, who attended the talks, told Pajhwok Afghan News the participants included peace activists, university teachers, academicians, and government officials from the three countries.

The meeting discussed in details the Afghan peace process, Afghanistan’s security and economic projects, he said, adding unemployment, economic growth and reaching an understanding with the US on shared goals in the region were topics that came up for discussion.

The Afghan activist said the talks had been different when compared to the past as representatives from the three countries vowed to come up with practical steps instead of pledges only.

He said the Chinese were of the view that peace and progress in Afghanistan was in the interest of all regional and neighboring countries including China and should be achieved with joint efforts.
