KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Recently-appointed provincial commissioners on the Independent Electoral Complaint Commission (IECC) took oath on Monday, vowing their neutrality in the election process.

IECC spokesman Ali Raza Rohani told Pajhwok Afghan News the oath-taking ceremony took place in Kabul after the president approved 27 of 102 shortlisted commissioners and recently approved another 75.

“With functioning of provincial IECC offices, complaints would be reviewed in provinces in the first phase and if the complainants are not satisfied, their complaints would be transferred to Kabul for a second review,” he said.

Rohani termed the work of provincial commissioners as vital and asked them to protect their neutrality, independence, legality and commitment to ensuring free, fair and transparent elections.

IECC head Abdul Aziz Aryabi said the country’s future was in the hands of IECC commissioners because their rulings on complaints impacted future lawmakers.

Ahmad Hanif Sharif, one of the provincial commissioners for Kapisa province, said: “Today we took oath by putting our hand on the holy Quraninfo-icon to protect our neutrality, implement the law and work honestly in the national process,” he said.

He pledged to carry out his duty in line with the election law and ensure justice was done.
