SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Eight Talibaninfo-icon militants and six Daesh or so-called Islamic State (IS) rebels have been killed during ongoing clashes between the rivals in Darzab district of northern Jwazjan province, an official said Tuesday.

Another nearly a dozen Daesh and five Taliban gunmen have been wounded in the clashes in Sardara and Maghol villages of the district, said Col. Abdul Hafeez Khashi, Jawzjan’s deputy police chief.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News the clashes between the two rival militant factions broke out last night and were still underway.

He further said the security situation of the two villages had deteriorated as the Taliban insurgents recently retook the Sardara village from IS rebels.

Ziauddin,  a resident of Sardara village, also confirmed the firefight between Taliban and Daesh in his area and said both the sides had suffered heavy casualties.

The Taliban and Daesh have so far said nothing in this regard.
