More than 150 Daesh insurgents surrender in Jawzjan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): After days of deadly clashes with the Talibaninfo-icon, more than 150 Islamic State fighters have surrendered to the government in northern Jawzjan province, officials said on Wednesday.

A senior leader of the insurgent group, Maulviinfo-icon Habibur Rahman surrendered to the security forces along with 152 loyalists, the 209th Shaheen Military Corps said in a statement.

The statement added Habibur Rahman and the fighters he led also handed over weapons and some military kits to the security personnel.

Police chief Gen. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani, as well Provincial Council Chairman Abdul Hai Hayat confirmed the surrender, which came after days of fighting between the Taliban and Daesh.

The Taliban claimed killing dozens of Daesh fighters and seizing more than 130 others. The rebel movement also acknowledged the loss of 17 militants and injuries to 13 more.
