Paktika ALP commander injured, wife, daughter killed

Aug 03, 2018 - 16:20

SHARANA (Pajhwok): Gunmen attacked an Afghan local police (ALP) commander travelling with his family, killing his wife, a daughter and injuring him, a second daughter and a son in the capital of southeastern Paktika province, an official said on Friday.

The Yousafkhel district ALP commander, Niaz, and his family were attacked on their way to Sharana, the provincial capital, in an area between Kotwal and Gulawal villages, Yousafkhel district police chief Baz Khan told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the ALP commander was wounded, his wife and a 10-year-old daughter were killed and his second daughter and a three-year-old son were injured in the attack.

A resident of the district, Ghulam Rahman, said the attack took place in Kotwal village on Thursday and involved Talibaninfo-icon gunmen.

A resident of Sharana, Attiqullah, said the attack took place about three kilometers from the police headquarters in the provincial capital. He said the attackers easily escaped from the scene.

The resident said the security situation in Sharana had lately deteriorated due what he said negligence of security forces.

The Taliban denied involvement in the attack, with their spokesman Qari Zabihullah Mujahid said the attack seemed to be a result of personal enmity.

The incident comes a day after six children suffered casualties in a bomb last in Barmal district of the province.
