KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The US, UN and several other countries on Saturday strongly condemned the deadly suicide bomb attack on a Shiite mosqueinfo-icon in southeastern Paktia province.

At least 34 people were killed and another 94 injured on Friday when a suicide bomber attacked the mosque in the Gardez, the provincial capital. The death toll could mount.

During Friday prayer, two suicide bombers detonated their explosive vests inside the Shiite mosque. As there were civilians house near the mosque, womeninfo-icon and children were among the scores of civilian casualties.

“The attack targeting civilians has no possible justification,” said Tadamichi Yamamoto the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Afghanistaninfo-icon and head of UNAMA.

Those who were responsible for enabling the attack must be brought to justice and held to account, he said, expressing condolences to the loved ones of those killed in the attack and whished a full and speedy recovery to those injured.

Qatar has also strongly condemned the bombing of a mosque in Pakita, causing deaths and injuries, in a statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar’s firm stance rejecting violence and terrorism.

The statement stressed Qatar’s total rejection of targeting places of worship and intimidating civilians. It expressed Qatar’s condolences to the victims’ families the government and people of Afghanistan, whishing the injured a speedy recovery.

Iran denounced the attack and expressing solidarity with the Afghan government, nation and families of the victims. “Imported and imposed terrorism on the Afghan people is seeking to sow discord among the Afghans by spreading insecurity.”

Such plots would be certainly be foiled through vigilance of the Kabul government and perpetrators of the crimes would be accountable for committing such crimes.

“We strongly condemn the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack in Gardez, which resulted in the death of innocent Afghans. We convey heart-felt condolences to the families of the victims and pray for early recovery of the injured,” the Indian foreign ministry said.

Yesterday’s attack again underlined the need for united global fight against international terrorism without discrimination and accountability of those who support terrorists in any manner.

In Islamabad, the Foreign Office (FO) expressed deepest sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families.

Pakistaninfo-icon prays for the earliest recovery of the injured and stands together with the government and people of Afghanistan in this hour of grief,” the FO said in a statement.

“We also reiterate our solidarity with Afghanistan in their fight against the common enemy of terrorism.”

British Ambassador Nick Kay also slammed the heinous attack. “Our thoughts remain with all affected in Paktia, those whose loved ones have been lost and those who are injured. In the face of such atrocity, we urged unity for Afghanistan.”

Gen. John Nicholson, top US and NATOinfo-icon commander in Afghanistan, expressed Resolute Support (RS) mission’s deepest sympathies to the family and friends of those martyred and wounded.

The Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) denounced the suicide bombing and reaffirmed its solidarity with Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism.

Meanwhile, the US embassy in Kabul condemned the attack on worshipers. “We stand with all Afghans who seek to live in harmony,” the embassy tweeted.

The United Arab Emirates UAE has condemned the terrorist attack on a mosque in Afghanistan's eastern province of Paktia, resulting in a number of innocent victims.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation affirmed in a statement today the UAE's rejection of the various forms of violence and anti-terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, expressing sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.

Bahrain has strongly condemned today the terrorist attack on a mosque in the province of Paktia in Afghanistan, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries.
The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed its stance with Afghanistan in the face of terrorism, renewing its firm rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism, stressing the need for concerted efforts by the international community at all levels to ensure the eradication of this serious scourge threatening all countries of the worldinfo-icon.
The Foreign Ministry expressed its deep condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery for all injured.
