Taliban storm Uruzgan’s Chenarto district

TERINKOT (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon militants have launched a coordinated attack on the center of Chenarto district of central Uruzgan province, causing casualties on both sides, officials said Saturday.

Provincial police chief, Col. Mohammad Maruf Ahmadzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban militants attacked a number of security pots of Chenarto district on Friday night.

He said the militants captured an Afghan National Army (ANA) base and killed three of Afghan soldiers and wounded as many others in the battle.

At least 11 Taliban fighters were also killed in Afghan forces retaliatory response, he added. The bodies of three of the insurgents were laid on the battle ground, Ahmadzai said.

He said the Taliban were pushed back and the battle was stopped.

A credible source in Chenarto district, who wished not to be named, told Pajhwok that Taliban militants blown up the new district building, captured the ANA base, killed four soldiers and captured many other security personnel alive during their attack last night.

The source said the battle was still ongoing and no any reinforcement was so far arrived to the area.

Taliban did not comment yet on the incident.
