“15 years ago, we came to Afghanistan with a deep commitment to provide the best in class network quality to connect the Afghan people and transform their lives through technology, investment and jobs,” said Karim Khoja, Roshan’s CEO during a ceremony which market the 15 anniversary.

“Afghanistan’s communications infrastructure has come a long way in 15 years. Roshan is now focused on ushering and leading a new era of digital connectivity. We remain committed to the people and the government of Afghanistan and will continue to work closely with the government to use technology to improve delivery of public services,” he said. 

As a leading investor, Roshan has invested more than $700 million in the development of its telecom infrastructure and has created more than 35,000 jobs in the country through direct and indirect employment.   

Roshan has always been a pioneer in leveraging its robust network infrastructure and technology to support the government and the people of Afghanistan.  These include the launch of Afghanistan’s first ever mobile money service, M-Paisa, which has contributed to increasing financial transparency and financial inclusion. Roshan also launched the first ever Telemedicine program in Afghanistan in 2007, linking hospitals in Badakhshan, Bamiyan and Kandahar provinces to the French Medicial Institute for Children and Mothers (FMIC) in Kabul, one of the most modern hospitals.

Roshan was issued its license in January 2003 and commercially started its service on July 27thof the same year.  At that time, barely 100,000 Afghans had access to any form of communications. Today, Roshan provides phone and digital connectivity to more than 6 million customers across all the 34 provinces of Afghanistan. 

Since its inception in 2003, Roshan has been a leader in sustainable Corporate Social Responsbility (CSR) through its flagship social program, Roshan Community. In the past 15 years, Roshan has built 11 schools, 30 E-learning Centers, 

244 drinking water wells, 54 playgrounds and has implemented tens of other major social and development projects across Afghanistan.  Roshan is also known as a brand that has brought soccer to the homes of millions of Afghans through its sponsorship of the Afghan Premier League which was launched in 2012.  

Roshan Marks 15th Anniversary of Commitment to the Development & Progress in Afghanistan
