Khostis welcome Ghani’s latest peace overtures

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Influential figures and youth in southeastern Khost province on Thursday welcomed the government’s latest steps towards finding a negotiated end to the decades-old conflict in the country and urged more bold measures.

The Khost residents who had gathered in capital Kabul welcomed what they said “latest progress” in the peace process with Talibaninfo-icon.

Dr. Faisal Bawarzai, one of the organizers of the meeting, said they supported the government latest efforts particularly President Ashraf Ghani’s decisions on the peace process and said the youth were ready to stand with the president to ensure peace and bring unity among people.

Mualvi Sultan Mohammad Majrohi, the provincial youth department director, criticized the formation of anti-government political coalitions, saying whenever national interest projects were being executed, some elements saw their personnel interests at stake.

He welcomed and supported the government recent action against powerful individuals spearheading illegal private militias. He also welcomed the launch of National ID cards, peace negations talks with Taliban and urged youth in provinces to support their president.

A number of other participants expressed similar views and supported the government’s latest steps as part of the peace process.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rizwan, an advisor to the Presidential Palace on healthinfo-icon affairs, said whenever hopes for peace began to rise, some people had showed their opposition to the process.

He said members of the new grand political alliance were tested individuals and the Afghans needed new and talented people to run the country.
