PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Kabulinfo-icon has asked Islamabad for full cooperation on the issue of peace and reconciliation in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

At a meeting with Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Afghan Ambassador Dr Omar Zakhilwal hoped Islamabad would honour the commitments held out to Kabul.

Zakhilwal conveyed this message to Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa during a meeting at the General Headquarters amidst escalating violence in Afghanistan.

Under the Afghanistan-Pakistaninfo-icon Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS), Islamabad has promised diplomatic efforts to promote a Kabul-led peace process.

The two sides have agreed to discuss political and diplomatic issues and matters pertaining to economy and trade, refugee repatriation, military and intelligence cooperation.

After the meeting in the garrison town of Rawalpindi, the ambassador tweeted: “This afternoon called on Pak Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa discussing regular as well as some important current issues including need for full cooperation as per APAPPS.

“We also discussed other bilateral commitments which, in turn, help with our peace efforts and reduction of violence,” Zakhilwal said.

Despite hectic efforts, Pajhwok Afghan News could not reach the military’s media wing ISPR for comments on the meeting, which comes amid escalating violence in Afghanistan.
