IECC releases list of 35 WJ contenders lacking eligibility criteria

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Saturday said 35 possible candidates of Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon (WJ) were not qualified for nomination and sent their names to the Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon).

Among the disqualified candidates, 12 of them are incumbent members of the Wolesi Jirga.

According to the list, the 35 candidates belong to Kabul, Uruzgan, Bamyan, Badakhshan, Balkh, Parwan, Paktia, Takhar, Khost, Samangan, Faryab, Logar and Nangarhar provinces while two others from from Kuchiinfo-icon (nomads) zone.

Mohibullah, Amanullah Hotaki and Ahmad Shah from Uruzgan; Abdul Rahman Shahidani from Bamyan; Fawzia Kufi, Mariam Kufi, Mohammad Nabi Bayan and Abdul Hamid from Badakhshan; Sayed Jafar Naderi, Asadullah Islamzoy and Hayatullah Wafadar from Baghlan province were among the candidates disqualified.

Asadullah Sharifi from Balkh; Ghulam Haidar Jailani and Noor Ahmad Sekandar from Parwan; Allahmir and Nawid Ibrahimkhel from Paktia; Bashir Qanit and Asadullah Ayub from Takhar;, Liaqatullah Babakrkhel and Jabbar Jabbarkhel from Khost; Masuma Khawari, Mohammad Asif Azimi and Raes Khairullah from Samangan were other candidates who were disqualified to run for Wolesi Jirga.

Sakhi Nawid from Faryab, Qais Hasan, Mulavi Tarakhel, Sayed Daud Naderi, Sadaqat Zahid, Ziaulhaq Amarkhel and Ehsanullah Atif from Kabul; Akbar Stanikzai from Logar, Shayesta Baz Naseri from Kunduz, Jawid Zaman from Nangarhar; and Sher Ali Ahmadzai and Zardad Faryadi from Kuchi zone were also suggested by the IECC to be removed.

At the end of this list which also signed by five members of the IECC, the commission said, “The people listed above could not meet the conditions according to the election law, therefore they should be removed from the final list,”

An official of the IECC, who wished not to be named, confirmed the list to Pajhwok Afghan News.

An official of the IEC, who also wished to go unnamed, said that they cannot confirm or reject the list, but the IECC shared a list of 35 possible candidates with the IEC, suggesting their removal from final list.

The official said the final list of candidates would be shared later today or tomorrow on Sunday.

The IECC added 102 of 145 possible candidates to the list who were previously removed by the IEC, he added.

IEC previously had said that 2,449 candidates were added to the initial list. The Wolesi Jirga and district council elections are scheduled for October 20.
