Taliban driven out of Batikot farm lands

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Nearly 2,500 hectrare farm land in the Batikot district of eastern Nangarhar province has been cleared from the Talibaninfo-icon presence after security forces operation supported by local upraising groups, an official said.

District Chief Abdul Wahab Momand told Pajhwok Afghan News a joint military operation led by Afghan National Army was successfully underway in the district.

He said around 2,500 hectres land of the Canalization Department in the second farm area was completely freed of the Taliban interference.

During the operation the Taliban two centres where the group collected the Usharinfo-icon and Zakatinfo-icon money had been captured by the security forces.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Qand Agha Sapi, commander of 4th infantry at Selab Military Corps, said the Taliban’s advancement had been stopped as a result of military operation in Batikot.

He said the residents of locality assured that local upraising movement against the Taliban would continue in the area.

The Taliban said no land in Batikot belonged to the group and it was common people land.

“We have no land in Batikot, the government may have retook that land from common people who leased these land for growing. Taliban have nothing to do with local lands.” said Mujahid.
