11 forces killed, 20 wounded in Faryab siege

Aug 12, 2018 - 20:06

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon militants killed at least 11 security forces, wounded 20 and captured six alive after attacking their posts and a Chinese camp in northwestern Faryab province, sources said Sunday.

A besieged soldier telephoned Pajhwok Afghan News from the Ghormach district and said their 11 soldiers had been killed, 20 wounded and six others captured alive during the attack.

Another security official, who wished to go unnamed, said they had been besieged over the past few days and they requested other security forces but they did not come to their rescue.

He said the dead soldiers included a check-point commander Sayed Azam.  He warned if the government did not launch clearing operations in the area, the remaining soldiers would also be killed or taken hostage.

Meanwhile, Inayatullah Beig, an influential figure in Faryab, confirmed he had been contacted by the besieged security officials seeking help to break the Taliban’s siege.
